Lisbon Valley Mining Company, LLC operates the Lisbon Valley copper mine ~40 miles southeast of Moab, Utah. LVMC uses conventional drill-blast-load-haul methods common to the surface mining industry, but employs the use of a heap leachpad and SX/EW technology to extract and plate copper. As of December 31, 2012, LVMC’s estimated proven and probable reserves were approximately 168 million copper pounds, with the Company’s current base case showing a mine life extending to 2022. In 2005, the Lisbon Valley Mine was the first new copper mine in the U.S. in 10 years. Mining commenced in September 2005, and the first copper cathode was harvested in April 2006. Lisbon Valley Mine has produced approximately 69 million pounds of copper to date and annual production is expected to exceed 18 million pounds at current mining and processing rates.
